Box Culverts

U.S. Concrete Products manufactures Single Span Concrete Boxes from 3 1/2’ x 5’ to 10’x10’ for various drainage and culvert applications. As with Drainage Pipe, we can also manufacture Headwalls for Box Culverts.
Box culverts are the most commonly used alternative to drainage pipes where design constraints limit the amount of cover available.
Box culverts are used for intakes and outtakes, holding tanks, steam tunnels, corridor links, road crossings, service tunnels and utility trenches. They are one of the most useful structures in modern construction. Box culverts can be made in large sizes to accommodate increased flow rates and capacities.
Design Versatility can make Concrete Box the Drainage Conveyance or Short Span Bridge system of choice. Concrete Box can be specified in low head room applications and a variety of load conditions. These include applications with Less than 2Ft of Cover to Deep Cuts and loading ranging from Pedestrian, AASHTO HS20 Highway, Cooper E-80 Railroad to Aircraft.
Typically, Concrete Box is built to one of the following Standards:
ASTM C1433 – Standard Specification for Precast Box Sections for Culverts, Storm Drains and Sewers
AASHTO M259 – Precast Reinforced Box Sections for Culverts, Storm Drains and Sewers. This Specification is analogous to ASTM C789.
AASHTO M273 – Precast Reinforced Box Sections for Culverts, Storm Drains and Sewers with Less than 2 Ft of Cover Subjected to Highway Loading. This Specification is analogous to ASTM C850.
